It's official: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are no longer representatives of the Queen.

Buckingham Palace confirmed this morning the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will drop their 'royal highness' titles, and are no longer working members of the royal family.

Royal Editor of the Daily Mirror Russell Myers told Andrew Dickens there's sadness in the UK.

"Harry is a much loved member of that family, and he has spoken of his own personal struggles, and Meghan has as well. The Queen's statement is very, very personal once again, and that tells you an awful lot that there is a lot of goodwill towards them."

The Queen says she hopes today's agreement will allow the couple to start building a happy and peaceful new life.

Myers says that the loss of the HRH title will be a comedown for them, as it will make it difficult for them to make business from their royal connections.

The pair will be tied to royal engagements until later this year.
