Backroom talks are likely to continue today -- ahead of the National Party's leadership decision. 

Christopher Luxon appears to have made up his mind to run for the leadership -- and is thought to have the edge on Simon Bridges in terms of numbers. 

The pair could face off in the vote at tomorrow's caucus meeting. 

But former National leader Don Brash told Mike Hosking Luxon and Bridges could try to follow in the footsteps of John Key and Bill English.

“When I stepped down in late 2006, John Key clearly had a substantial majority, but Bill also had very loyal supporters and they got together and did a deal.”
