Armed police are guarding an Auckland property after a person was seriously injured in an incident this morning.

Delays were earlier expected at Auckland’s Mt Wellington Highway as police responded, with officers carrying weapons now stationed at the top of the driveway of a house where a person was harmed.

A police spokesperson said the incident, on Mt Wellington Highway between Te Horeta Rd and Rowlands Ave, was reported to emergency services just after 6.30am.

Traffic would be disrupted while emergency services work on a person who has been seriously injured, the spokesperson said.

“At this stage the road remains open, however, motorists are advised to take alternative routes or expect delays.”

A witness said sirens could be heard, and a police helicopter was flying in the area.
