The Police Commissioner says he should have known months ago that senior officer Rakesh Naidoo had decided to run for Labour, to protect Police impartially.
Police Minister Mark Mitchell says Naidoo has been privy to private information.
Commissioner Richard Chambers says he only found out on Sunday, while Labour says Naidoo told a supervisor his intentions last Thursday.
Chambers told Kerre Woodham there are clear Police guidelines for a reason.
He says they've seen each other multiple times in the past two months, and they needed to know a lot earlier so impartially is protected and everyone is kept safe.
