One person has been taken to hospital in a critical condition after a car crashed into a hedge in Hastings.

Police were called to the crash near the Collinge Rd and Collinge Place intersection in Mayfair around 12.40pm today.

One person was transported to Hawke’s Bay Hospital in a critical condition by Hato Hone St John.

The Serious Crash Unit had been advised.

The road was expected to be closed for some time.

A police spokesperson said they could not confirm if the crash had been caused by a medical event.

They said motorists were advised to avoid the area where possible and expect delays.
