Laura Clery feared she was going to die after a 270kg fridge toppled on to her inside her home.

The comedian and influencer, 39, was pinned against a kitchen counter by the utility while her two young children were nearby, with the mishap leading to Clery being rushed to hospital for treatment – and the mum sharing details of the incident in a series of emotional social media posts, which included footage filmed from the back of an ambulance in which she appeared wearing a neck brace and crying out in pain.

The online creator, who has amassed nearly 25 million followers across social media platforms through comedy sketches, parenting content and podcast appearances, said she was alone at home with her children when the appliance “slammed” into her.

She said on Instagram about the incident: “Most terrifying night of my life as a single mom. I was home alone getting ready for bed when my 600lb [270kg] fridge slammed into me and pinned me against the counter. I couldn’t move.

“Couldn’t breathe right. Was impossible to get off and I could feel myself losing consciousness. My kids were in the house. I genuinely didn’t know if I was getting out of that alive.

“Thank God my phone was in my pocket and I was able to call 911. Thank god it didn’t fall on my kids. It took three firefighters to lift it off me. I’m still shaking.”

Clery shares son Alfie and daughter Poppy with ex-husband Stephen Hilton, from whom she separated in 2023 after a highly publicised split that continues to attract online attention through their respective podcasts and social media channels.

Clery later expanded on the incident in a post shared to Patreon, explaining the fridge allegedly shifted after her son attempted to climb it.

She said: “I saw it shift slightly, just enough to make my stomach drop. So I ran over to push it back into place.

“I thought I’d just nudge it in and move on with my day like a woman who has control over her life. The second I pushed it, it came down on me. Not slowly.

“Not in a way where I could catch it or jump out of the way. It just fell. The full weight of it slammed me backward into the kitchen island, pinning my lower back and hips.”

Clery said she was unable to move beneath the appliance and began struggling to breathe as the pressure intensified.

“I tried to push it off and it didn’t even slightly budge. It felt like pushing against a building. My breathing started to go.

“I could feel it getting harder to inhale, like my body was just slowly deciding to shut down.”

Clery said hearing daughter Poppy cry intensified the panic of the situation.

“The pain was so intense it almost didn’t feel real. Poppy started crying, which honestly snapped me into even more panic because now it wasn’t just me, it was them watching this happen.

“Alfie ran outside, thank God, probably scared out of his mind.”

The comedian also said she briefly found herself thinking, while trapped beneath the appliance before emergency crews arrived at the property: “This is the dumbest way anyone has ever died”.

Hilton reacted publicly to the incident in a Facebook post, writing: “She literally thought she was dying. Still feeling devastated. Go straight to JAIL, whoever is responsible for this…”

Clery rose to prominence online through viral comedy videos and relationship sketches before expanding into podcasting and mental health discussions.

In recent years, she has spoken openly about addiction recovery, parenting challenges and co-parenting after her split from Hilton, with both continuing to maintain substantial online audiences.
