Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown is urging Auckland FC fans to attend today’s victory parade, where the team will show off the A-League trophy.

The Black Knights secured the title in front of more than 28,000 spectators at Go Media Stadium last night after beating Sydney FC 1-0 in the grand final.

Auckland became champions in just their second season as a club, making them the first outfit from New Zealand to do so.

Brown was among the fans at the ground watching the history-making match. He said the result was “a remarkable achievement for the club and the city”.

He urged fans to attend today’s trophy parade, where an open-top bus will tour the team along Queen St, and finish with a trophy presentation at Takutai Square in Britomart.

“I know some people may have been celebrating long into the night, it was an unforgettable occasion,” Brown said.

“But I’m encouraging fans to come along today and be part of it. This is a chance for the whole city to get behind the team and celebrate a special moment for Auckland.

“Even if you weren’t at the game, or have only just caught up with the result, come along and join the celebrations.”
