The man whose pursuit caused the arming of Christchurch police has appeared briefly in court

Officers are no longer carrying guns after Treik Rakena Allen was arrested yesterday, after a week-long manhunt.

The 20-year-old appeared in court via video link this morning.

He was silent and kept his eyes down as he faced two charges of firing a pistol to prevent lawful arrest.

A large group of supporters gathered the public gallery to support Allen, including a young child.

He was remanded in custody and will reappear in two weeks.
