The worst of the weekend's wild weather is over in Auckland, and electricity has been restored in most parts of the city.
Nearly 1,000 homes were without power in Wellsford last night, because falling trees and other debris had brought down power lines.
There were also outages in Titirangi, and warnings of outages in other parts of the region.
Vector said only about 70 households are currently without power - they're in Waitoki, Coatesville and West Harbour.
The electricity is to be restored for those homes by about 8pm.
Many Auckland residents have spent the day in clean-up mode after hurricane force winds last night toppled trees, broke fences, and upturned bins.
Gales of up to 140 kilometres an hour were recorded in the city.
In Sunnyvale, Ross Sinclair said it was a noisy night.
"I was sitting in my house and all of a sudden I heard a big crash and a bang into the house that shook the house. I went outside and the gate had completely ripped off and smashed into the house."
