All around the globe this week space enthusiasts have been celebrating World Space Week. Â
This year's theme was Women in Space and as part of this, a new group, Women in Space Aotearoa New Zealand has been formed.
One of the core organisers of this network is space scientist and entrepreneur Emeline Paat-Dahlstrom.
Emeline is the co-founder of International Space Consultants and SpaceBase, and has spent over 30 years working in the industry in Silicon Valley and now New Zealand.Â
She told Francesca Rudkin looking at sign-ups from this week there are about 100 members and growing when they launched Women in Space Aotearoa New Zealand network.
"We'd love to have more women and girls basically be part of the space industry, which is sort of the reason for creating this particular network."
Paat-Dahlstrom says you don't need to be an engineer to get into the industry, and hopes this initiative will encourage more women to enter the industry.
