Winston Peters has made it clear where he thinks the Green Party stands in the Coalition.

The Deputy Prime Minister was asked about the $5.5 billion surplus on The Country today.

Peters told Jamie Mackay the Government won't be rushing to spend it all.

Mackay pointed out that the Greens want to spend it all.

"They made that cear, but the reality is the Government - and that's the Labour and New Zealand First - are saying that cautious, responsible management of the economy is what we promised and we're going to deliver it."

Although the Greens are not formally part of the coalition, they have Ministers in Cabinet and give Labour and NZ First their majority over National.
