The Country radio show's celebrating its 30th anniversary with a series of special interviews over the next two days.

Host Jamie MacKay —and Lee Piper and Grant Nisbett— kicked off the show at the Gore Showgrounds in 1994.

Former Wallace MP and Prime Minister Bill English reckons that venturing into radio took a lot of guts.

He says he never expected them to be so successful and keep going for such a long time.

English reflected on his long political career, gave a few comments on the coalition government, and revealed how his farming background aided his career in politics.
