Simon Bridges says that social media could play a key role in next year's election.
The National leader met Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison over the weekend. Morrison triumphed at the elections earlier this year thanks in part to a successful social media campaign that targetted Labor leader Bill Shorten.
When asked if National would consider a similar move next year, Bridges says that the power of the medium can't be understated.
"When the media doesn't give us a fair go, we know New Zealanders can hear from us online."
However, Bridges says that they'd have a harder time than Morrison, as 'Ardern' and 'Peters' aren't as easy names to riff on.
The Opposition leader does have a few other insults up his sleeves - he repeatedly called the Government "nanny state" during his discussion with Jamie Mackay.
Bridges rejected Mackay's suggestion that Winston Peters would be a better choice for farmers to vote for next year than National if they want to stop a Labour-Green coalition.
He says that Green MP Gareth Hughes recnrt call to put climate change and health warning stickers on meat highlights why New Zealand First is not a good vote.Â
"Winston Peters chose Gareth Hughes. He didn't just go on a date with him, he married him."Â
