The Prime Minister believes that the idea of conflict between urban and rural communities has the opportunity to be self-fulfilling.

Jacinda Ardern joined The Country's Andy Thompson, and was asked about Agriculture Minister Damien O'Connor's recent opinion piece defending the Government's relationship with the farming community.

Ardern says that she is not worried about a backlash against the Government from farmers.

"We've got some big issues that we're working through that I know the rural communities want some certainty on."

She says that the Government has good relationships with farming leaders.

The concern for Ardern is the rural-urban issue.

"I don't think it's real. I think it gets built up, and it has the potential to be self-fulfilling. And we all have responsibilities for the challenges we face," she says, with water quality on of those issues.

She says that there is more coverage on these issues in "certain quarters".
