It seems that it's not just talkback callers that are fed up with 'political correctness'.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has weighed in on two of the month's biggest issues: the Bunnings sausage debacle and whether Santa can be a woman.

Talking with Jamie Mackay on The Country, Ardern says that she found the onion-safety measures introduced at Bunnings to be a bit ridiculous.

"When I saw the sausage sizzle situation, I was absolutely outraged. It was absolute madness."

She says that it will never be law that onions cannot be in sausage sizzles, calling it "utter ridiculousness".

Ardern also weighed in on the news that Auckland's Santa Parade sacked their Santa over controversial comments about female actors playing the jolly Christmas figure.

The PM says that she doesn't think we should "take the joy out of Christmas".

"I do think sometimes we need to take a breath," she said.
