This weekend the Brumbies are in a great position to cause a boil over and shut the Aussie Super Rugby haters down.

The arrogance of NZ fans, borne through outrageous success, needs to be chopped back a bit. A win versus the tournament frontrunners, topped off with a triumph in next week's decider would pump life back into the comp and send a shockwave through the corridors of power at NZR.

The Brumbies proved their worth versus the Hurricanes, who shouldn’t grouse about the refereeing process that denied Ardie but focus on what they should have done in the previous 80 minutes - but couldn’t because the Brumbies wouldn’t let them. The Reds almost caused a meltdown of nuclear proportions by taking the Chiefs a whole lot closer than they were comfortable with only the Waratahs provided the gossamer thin opposition most thought was endemic in Aussie rugby.

It’s unlikely that the Brumbies could take the title, but not impossible right? The dismissive attitude on this side of the ditch, one I’m sure that is not carried by the teams, sets us up nicely for a fall from grace over the next eight days.

For the super rugby order to be shaken, it would only take the Crusaders not to win; for it to be shaken to its core, the Brumbies need to ascend.

And you’d be a fool to write them off.

I don’t think they’ll have the firepower when it counts, but rugby is a strange beast, the frailties of ref decisions, the fragility of player carcasses and the freakish sway of finals pressure can bring the most fantastic results.
