Victims of historical abuse in state care will soon have their say.
The Government's launching an inquiry today into the abuse of children in state care from the 1950s to 1990s.
Human rights lawyer Sonja Cooper has represented hundreds of victims.
She told Mike Hosking any inquiry should be forward thinking and take into account abuse right up to the present time.
"We've got clients as young as 17 instructing us about abuse they experienced right up until the present. That shows us that abuse isn't something that has just stopped in New Zealand."
