The Huddle: Tourism vouchers, iwi checkpoints and Clean Car Standards

Tourism operators have a life saving idea to prop up the industry.

They're asking the Government for a voucher system, to give Kiwis a sum of money to spend on businesses.

Meanwhile, Police have closed down a checkpoint up north.

Te Tai Tokerau Border Control set up an iwi 'information centre' on State Highway 1 south of Kawakawa -- in response to the latest Covid 19 case in the region and two cases in Auckland.

They were pulling over Northbound traffic to give them information about the South African strain -- and where to find a testing station.

But Police turned up about 11.20am and stopped them stopping vehicles.

And a law change to drive up imports of greener vehicles.

Transport Minister Michael Wood says legislation will pass this year to bring in Clean Car Standards from next year.

It's one of a suite of previously promised measures the Government's moving on - which are estimated to cut emissions by at least 13.5 million tonnes by 2040.
