The Wally Haumaha inquiry is getting murkier and murkier by the day. There is a stench around all of this that I don’t like. I happen to think that he deserves and should get a fair hearing, but as time goes by this appointment is looking ropey.

The odd thing from the get-go is that the inquiry is only looking at the process of the appointment, not the appointment itself. I find this odd because if the process is wrong than the appointment must come into question as well. I don’t think you can detach the two of them, they are linked.

Then there are the links between Haumaha and NZ First. He was a candidate of course and has connections with NZ First via Winston Peters, who spoke on the marae on behalf of him.

And the person who was appointed to head the inquiry Dr Kingi, turned out to be a find of Haumaha on LinkedIn which is a conflict of interest, so she was gone, she resigned and did the right thing.

Then there were the bullying allegations by the three women who were working with Haumaha on some project from the Justice Department, so we have the bullying allegations.

And from the NZ Herald, (which was very good investigative journalism), the allegation he called a witness to the alleged bullying incident, which is problematic.

It looks like there is a campaign out there, someone is out to get Haumaha.

It looks like someone in the police is drip feeding information, there is a lot of stuff which doesn’t pass the sniff test.

It looks inevitable that flaws will be found in the so-called process, which means by default Haumaha's appointment will be looked upon carefully.
