Barbed fish hooks hanging from trees, thumbtacks and spiked boards dug into the ground.

They're among the traps removed from cycle paths in a park in Hawke's Bay over the past fortnight.

The discoveries have prompted the region's Cyclocross group, a hybrid of mountain and road biking, to cancel all of their upcoming events until police can find out who the culprit is.

Committee member Ivar Hopman told Heather du Plessis-Allan they have no clue why someone would be trying to sabotage them.

“It’s the sad thing about it. We’re a small cycling-cross club to try to put fun events on and hear something like this happening, it really shook us a little bit and we’re trying to find out why.”
