There are concerns that Mr Whippy might have a monopoly over the moving-food market.

GetFed, an Auckland food truck company, wanted to roam the streets with hot, fresh meals to sell on the go.

The council's apparently told GetFed that only ice-cream vendors can sell food on residential streets.

Fed director Becky Erwood told Larry Williams says that they can still deliver food, but they can’t sell food to those who haven’t thought ahead.

Erwood says the council law is stopping the city from being functional and vibrant.

“We can’t even use a tune because it might confuse the children!”
