The country's recorded its deadliest King's Birthday Weekend on the roads in a decade.
Three people were killed in a two-car collision on the Desert Road early yesterday morning, following two crashes in Taupō, a crash on Waiheke Island, and a crash in Dunedin.
That brings the total number of deaths to at least seven.
AA Road Safety Spokesperson Dylan Thomsen told Francesca Rudkin overall road deaths are falling but are still higher than other countries.
He says we're improving, but this weekend just shows how a few moments can destroy people's lives.
