Jarryd Hayne has been named in the 49ers active roster for their NFL season opener against the Minnesota Vikings in San Francisco this afternoon.

While he's been confirmed in the 46-man squad, it doesn't guarantee Hayne will get much or any game time.

He could be selected as a backup at running back, but the more likely scenario is that he will be used on the return teams - as a kick returner, a punt returner, or both.

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is making his NFL return.

He only appeared in one game last season, before being suspended by the league after being indicted by a grand jury for hitting his four-year-old son with a stick.

The game is scheduled to get underway at 2:20pm New Zealand time.

The Atlanta Hawks are leading the Philadelphia Eagles 20-3 early in the second-half of today's other NFL game.
