The Breakers will open their 2026/27 season at home as 13 games are announced for the NBL’s opening weekend.

The fixture list promises to be the league’s biggest and busiest regular season with 165 games across 21 rounds.

The new season tips off on September 19 with Melbourne United playing the Adelaide 36ers, followed by the Perth Wildcats taking on South East Melbourne.

Fans of the Breakers will then see the team begin their season on September 20 at Spark Arena when they take on the Illawarra Hawks.

The schedule also includes 20 Ignite Cup games, four themed rounds, plenty of fixtures around Christmas and HoopsFest in Perth from January 13 to 17.

Breakers fans will also have the chance to see their team play on New Year’s Eve when they come up against the Cairns Taipans across the Ditch.

“This schedule has been built for the fans,” NBL chief operating officer and head of basketball operations Vince Crivelli said.

“The rivalries, the stars, the individual match-ups – they’re all here. There’s not a round that doesn’t have something huge at stake.

“That’s what makes the regular season so compelling, and why we can’t wait to get underway.

“In our league, every game matters and there’s nowhere to hide.”

The Breakers have had an active off-season and secured 67-year-old Gordon Herbert as their new coach on a two-year deal.

The former Bayern Munich and current Canadian national team coach replaced Petteri Koponen, who left the Breakers in February after two years in the job.

Herbert has previous experience in the NBA as an assistant coach with the Toronto Raptors, with further stints in France, Finland, Austria, Greece and Russia.

Sharpshooter Dejan Vasiljevic has been brought in on a one-year deal, alongside youngster Preston Le Gassick.

Meanwhile, 24-year-old centre Sam Mennenga committed his future to the team after he re-signed on a two-year contract in March.
