The weather is likely to have an impact on today's third and final one-day cricket international between the Black Caps and West Indies in Christchurch.

Stand-in Black Caps captain Tom Latham has won the toss and decided to bat first.

Showers are forecast after overnight rain, with afternoon fine spells.

They'll play on the same pitch used in New Zealand's resounding 204-run win in the second ODI and Black Caps opener George Worker expects it won't be too much different today.

Worker said it played really well the other day and if anything it may slow up a bit.

Latham's announced one change to the New Zealand XI with Mitchell Santner replacing Doug Bracewell.

"Obviously Doug has done a great job, we're just a little cautious about his knee...coming back from a long injury and obviously we'll use this to get Mitch Santner back in the game."

Chris Gayle returns after missing the second ODI with illness.

He replaces Evin Lewis at the top of the Windies' batting line-up, while left-arm spinner Nikita Miller has replaced young quick Ronsford Beaton.
