Two people have died after a crash involving a car and a truck in Christchurch.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash, which happened at the intersection of Shands Road and Blakes Road.

Fairfax reported the victims were a couple from the United Kingdom in their 60s who had been in the country for a week.

Police and St John Ambulance crews rushed to the scene at 5.46pm.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
