Nearly 62 percent of New Zealanders agree with the Government's decision to extend the Auckland Alert Level Three lockdown by four days.

It's been revealed in the latest New Zealand Herald-Kantar Vote 2020 poll.

In the online survey, a thousand people were asked questions about the second Covid-19 lockdown.

Around 19 percent think it should have been extended longer, while one in 10 think it should have been lifted on August 26, as originally planned.

Just six percent of people surveyed think the second lockdown should never have happened.

Around 73 percent of Wellington residents think the Government's response was appropriate, far more than the 56 percent of Aucklanders who share the same opinion.

The poll reveals women are also more likely to agree with the Government's decision, with 66 percent supporting it, compared with 57 percent of men.

The poll of a thousand eligible voters was taken from August 26 to August 30 and has a margin of error of 3.1 per cent.
