More rain for Gisborne and Hawkes Bay

More rain is on the way for the already inundated Gisborne and Hawkes Bay region, but it won't be as heavy as earlier in the week.

Rain will develop around Gisborne and Hawkes Bay today, and could be heavy around the ranges.

WeatherWatch weather analyst Philip Duncan said the rain will be patchy around the sodden regions today and ease tomorrow.

Northland may be affected by showers tomorrow, but a ridge of high pressure will keep the South Island, and inland parts of the North Island sunny and dry.

If some spring gardening is on the mind of South Islanders, tomorrow will be the day to get out in the garden.

A high will be firmly centred of the South island tomorrow, Mr Duncan said, and will bring a fine and sunny day.

However, the top of the North Island will be in for more showers tomorrow.

The rain could reach from Northland down into Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula, Mr Duncan said.

He said the eastern ranges would block most wet weather from tracking west-wards, but a few showers may develop inland on Sunday in the North Island to areas like Waikato, inland Bay of Plenty and Central Plateau.

Monday, the first day of school holidays for most, looks like more of the same weather, Mr Duncan said.
