Kapiti Coast residents are livid at discovering the damage caused to their vehicles by failed road repairs.
The Kapiti Coast District Council received more than 37 service requests after resealing on Mazengarb Road and Guildford Drive in Paraparaumu didn't set, leaving loose chips all over the road.
Downer, which was contracted for the job, says it's working alongside the council addressing the complaints.
Lou Watkins-Ratcliffe does a school run down the Mazengarb Road twice a day.
She says it's shocking what the tar did to her wheels.
"My tyres are literally laden with tar and then encrusted in a layer of the chip permanently stuck to my wheels."
One Kapiti Coast resident says he pays rates so the council can fix the roads- not wreck his car.
David Haley says he'll have to pay several hundred dollars to repair his tyres.
"Two of my tyres have got tar through all the groves in it, and it lets all the water escape through them when you're driving along.
"It basically makes them feel like they're bald."
He says Downer told him to just wait until the tar wears out of the tyres.
But Haley says it's too dangerous to drive around with those tyres while the roads are wet.
