A group of young people set out today on a mission to paddle the Abel Tasman marine reserve, using kayaks built from plastic bottles.
Spokesman Ajay Ravindran says the unusual mission is about using waste as a vehicle, and helping spread awareness about the impact it has on the environment.
He says a lot of thought has gone into the design of the bottle kayaks.
