The Rugby World Cup hosts have opened the tournament with a bonus point win.

England ran away with a 35-11 win over Fiji in the opening match at Twickenham, after leading by just seven points with a quarter of an hour remaining.

The English scored their fourth try after the 80th minute.

The first five-pointer of the tournament was a penalty try and England fullback Mike Brown scored the second to give the hosts a 15-nil lead midway through the first-half.

But Crusaders winger Nemani Nadolo then scored his first try of the tournament and kicked a penalty to cut the deficit to 10 points at halftime.

Fiji first-five Ben Volavola landed a penalty in the 63rd minute to make it a seven point game, but from then on it was all England.

Brown scored his second try and then Billy Vunipola crashed over in the 81st minute to secure England a bonus point win.

England coach Stuart Lancaster says Vunipola's try is big in the context of their pool.

"Bonus points are absolutely invaluable because subconsciously that puts pressure on the opposition to go out and get four tries against Fiji. I'm sure Fiji will say something about that against Australia and Wales as well."

Fiji coach John McKee says they entered the match with high ambitions and felt they put England under pressure at times.

"It was our errors, some critical penalties, some critical turnovers allowed England to come back into the game."
