The audience at last night's Sol3 Mio operatic concert in Auckland found themselves drawn into a real-life opera when tenor Pene Pati proposed to his girlfriend live on stage.

After serenading Amina Edris, NZME reports Pati brought members of both their families on stage to present Edris with red roses before bending to one knee and asking her to marry him.

Edris, who had charmed the audience with her own performance earlier, whispered "Yes".

The crowd at Villa Maria Estate in Mangere cheered and waved glow sticks to congratulate the couple.
