The passengers of a car have had a lucky escape after the vehicle tumbled 70 metres down a tricky stretch of road.
It was travelling along Manaia Road towards Coromandel town last night when it smashed through the barrier and fell the 70 metres, landing on its wheels in a paddock.
An elderly couple and a young child were flown by Auckland's Westpac Rescue Helicopter to Waikato Hospital.
The woman suffered serious injuries and the two other passengers had moderate injuries.
Coromandel Fire Chief John Walker said it's the 10th vehicle that has rolled down the hill in the past four years.
The occupants were not from the area and he said the family had a lucky escape, which he credits to their wearing seatbelts.
