The AOS and emergency services are on standby while police negotiate with an armed offender who is threatening people inside a Northland property.

A police spokeswoman told the Herald a family member is threatening people with a weapon inside an address on Tavinor Rd, near Otaika.

She said police were called in relation to the incident before 7pm and members of the public are not being threatened.
