Corrections can't say how many, if any, guards were stood down following a slew of claims that inmates were assaulted by prison staff.

A total of 31 allegations of sexual and serious assault were made against staff between 2012 and 2016.

Corrections says it's reviewing its prisoner complaints process so that it can report on the outcomes of investigations.

It says the current reporting system doesn't allow it to match the initial allegation information with information collected in a separate second phase of the investigation process.

The Department says it takes allegations involving staff extremely seriously.
