A “frustrated” Auckland dad says his daughter is traumatised after she was attacked at a bus stop on her way home from school.

Ryel Joseph Cantos’ daughter, Chloe Rose, 15, was allegedly assaulted “out of nowhere” at the Glenfield Rd bus stop on Auckland’s North Shore about 4pm yesterday.

He said Chloe, who had moved to New Zealand from the Philippines three years ago, was left with a bloody nose after the “random” attack by another teenager.

“She was waiting for a bus at the bus station going home after school. And then this young lady just attacked her,” Cantos told the Herald.

“The girl was talking nasty things about my daughter. My daughter doesn’t know that girl and then she started to attack my daughter.

“Her nose bled heaps yesterday and the doctor advised us that after the swelling of the nose [goes down], to do some X-rays because we don’t know if the nose is broken or something.”

Cantos said the attack has been traumatic for Chloe, who is now afraid of going back to school.

“She’s really sad and frustrated. She’s not talking any more. She’s mute, she’s silent.

“My daughter doesn’t want to go to school now because she’s afraid. Even though the kid who attacked her is not attending the same school.”

Cantos said his daughter attended Glenfield College and he was told by the dean that the attacker had previously attended the school but was “kicked out last year”.

He has filed a police report and is hoping that the attacker is held accountable.

“I heard so many things about the girl. She’s a troublemaker.

“It should be stopped. Someone [needs to] do something about these things because it’s not really nice.”

Police confirmed to the Herald that they received “a report about an assault at a bus stop on Glenfield Rd on Wednesday afternoon”.

“The assault occurred at around 4pm, and was reported to police at around 4.30pm,” Waitematā East Police Inspector CJ Miles said.

“The offender left the area soon after the assault occurred. Fortunately, the victim was not seriously injured in the assault.

“Police is awaiting further information from the victim around what has occurred, and our inquiries will continue.”

It’s not the first incident to occur at the same bus stop outside of the Glenfield McDonald’s, with another Filipino girl assaulted in 2023 and other parents coming forward about their children getting assaulted or threatened in the area.

It has prompted calls from local parents for beefed-up security outside the restaurant.

Cantos said he was “frustrated and f****** stressed” about the situation.

“My daughter doesn’t want to go to school. It’s really hard for a parent to hear that.

“It’s not fair. My daughter is a nice kid. She doesn’t do anything to harm others.”
