UPDATED 4.27PM: Former National MP Tau Henare has been fined $1200 for breaching name suppression orders.
He named a high profile New Zealander who had permanent name suppression in a sex case.
He pleaded guilty in the Waitakere District Court today and apologised for wasting court and police time.
"I was in touch with the victim, and she said 'well done you'," he said.
"But that wasn't my main reason when I did it."
Henare says he revealed the man's name during an angry exchange and his advice not to do that or you'll get yourself in trouble.
