UPDATED 7.56PM Donations to help fund a review into the death of Blessie Gotingco have topped $100,000.
The 56-year-old was raped and murdered in Auckland two years ago by Tony Robertson, who'd been released from prison just five months earlier.
An independent Government inquiry made 27 recommendations but concluded Robertson, and no one else, could be held responsible for Mrs Gotingco's death.
Her husband Antonio Gotingco says the family is considering filing a civil case against the Department of Corrections, which he says has blood on its hands.
He says the department facilitated the actions of Robertson when it put him in their neighbourhood and gave him the opportunity to kill somebody.
Family spokeswoman Ruth Money says the nearly $114,000 pledged so far will firstly go towards experts in the fields of GPS tracking, child sex abuse and psychology.
"The first stage is getting those experts in place and working through the investigation. That will then allow the lawyers to file a comprehensive claim and move forward in terms of the legal processes with court."
