Every Friday morning, Mike Hosking takes you through the big ticket items of the week and lets you know what he makes of it all.

Here's a taste of what he reckons.

Winston Peters and his legal action.

2/10.

"Suing people while leading the country is tawdry, cheap and below his status. Yes, I'd be aggrieved too, but sometimes other matters override personal pursuit and this is one of them."

Shane Jones and his Fonterra attack.

6/10.

"I get why people think he's a knob, but on this, I think he has a point. Fonterra is out of touch. They're not a good corporate. And given their size, influence and role across the entire community, they could do a lot better and I have been saying it since Speirings' arrived.

Outrage over David Seymour, Suzy Cato and Heartbreak Island.

4/10.

"If you have issues with any of this, get a life, remember it's just telly and if you're truly affected enough to write letters and launch protests, don’t watch it.

I haven't and I feel fine."

Donald Trump and the Singapore Summit.

9/10.

"The summit was more than you could ever have realistically expected. But it also put into stark contrast the cold, hard reality that for some no matter what he does, there are those determined to be blind to it. And I think given that, we might like to start ignoring them.

Our kids are thriving.

8/10.

"My good news story of the week. The longitudinal study that shows the vast majority of our kids, despite the headlines, by the time they get to primary school are as good as gold.

Brendon Hartley

4/10.

"What do you do when you get run off the road? These are the days that test you."
