Some of the biggest political issues in the world are likely to be discussed on our shores over the next few days.

Heads of major international intelligence agencies comprising the Five Eyes alliance are descending on Queenstown to discuss world security.

They include FBI director James Comey and CIA director Mike Pompeo.

Senior Fellow at the Centre for Strategic Studies Jim Rolfe told Mike Hosking they won't be there for the golf that the region so proudly boasts about.

"These are people with hugely full agendas, and if they're going to give a couple of days to come to the other side of the world, it's for a good reason."

Rolfe said they will discuss things such as North Korea and ISIS.

"They'd be very interested in cyber threats and cyber security. Very, very big issue everywhere in the world now."
