The 2021 America's Cup in Auckland will be free to air on TV, online, and on Newstalk ZB and Radio Sport.

Team New Zealand boss Grant Dalton told Mike Hosking it's been one of the cornerstones since they won the Auld Mug.

"This is the first deal that has been done and they will roll out now all over the world. It's a philosophy we had not only ourselves but also Luna Rossa our challenger of record on behalf of the challengers."

Dalton hopes all countries will be able to screen the competition on free to air.

He says there's a bit of rebuilding to do and having the rights to the last cup on pay to view.

"France is a great example. Eight per cent of the market was counter inclusive with the digital rights as well. You couldn't watch the last America's Cup in France. That philosophy has done some damage all over the world."
