Human rights activists in the Philippines hope Jacinda Ardern's had even a slight hint of positive influence over the Philippines President.

Rodrigo Duterte's been leading a war on drugs in his country with thousands killed.

Cristina Palabay is the Secretary-General of the Alliance For the Advancement of People's Rights in the Philippines.

She told Mike Hosking she's hoping pressure from the likes of our Prime Minister may help the Philippines President rethink his strategy.

"He has acted upon international pressure in the past including that of continuing peace talks."
