There's concern less random breath testing has led to an increase in drink driving.
A report from Auckland Transport has found there was 28 percent more alcohol-related road deaths between 2015 and 17.
Brake New Zealand road safety campaigner, Caroline Perry, told Tim Dower the number of breath tests halved during that time.
"We would like to see more runs in breath testing brought back in across the country and also making sure there is enough police resourcing to do that."
Caroline Perry says random breath testing is effective in catching drink drivers and getting them off the road, as well as deterring people from doing it.
