Women fed up with pay inequality are encouraged to join rallies tomorrow.

Rallies in Christchurch and Dunedin will end a week of equal pay campaigning across the country.

Members of the Council of Trade Unions and the Public Service Association will gather in the two South Island cities tomorrow morning.

PSA Convenor Nancy McShane said pay equity is a significant issue in Otago and Canterbury, as well as the rest of the country.

"You only have to walk into any hospital and see how many women there are working compared to men and the work that they do to support the community, and the very low pay that we receive for doing it."

McShane said equal pay could help address a variety of social issues in New Zealand.

"We'd really like people to connect the dots about how pay equity could help to address a variety of social issues at the moment - children living in poverty, women and children trapped in violent relationships due to financial necessity, and the fact that many young Kiwi families are unable to afford to get into their own home at the moment."

The Christchurch rally will be in Cathedral Square at 10:30am, and the Dunedin rally is outside the Exchange at 11am
