West Auckland Police are appealing for witnesses after the attempted abduction of a 13 year old girl.

The victim was walking along Glendale Road about 3:30pm yesterday afternoon when a man in a silver vehicle pulled over to the side of the road.

He began following the girl in his car and eventually stopped and told her to get in.

A struggle occurred with the girl getting slapped in the face before fleeing and running to a relative's house on West Coast Road.

The man had continued to follow her in his car but took off when he saw a number of vehicles parked outside the property.

The girl discovered her relative wasn't home and was followed by the man again as she made her way back to Fruitvale Primary School - where police were immediately called.
