Puppies, kittens and rabbits galore - the SPCA has said its got plenty of pets awaiting adoption.
Auckland SPCA Chief Executive Andrea Midgen believes school holidays are the perfect time to add a furry friend to the family.
She said that the holidays allow children to get used to a new pet, and for the animal to settle into a home.
"It gives time for the kids to get used to it and spend some time with it... a bit more than school time when they're out of the house from 9-3."
Ms Midgen says taking on a pet is not without responsibility, and families should ensure they have enough space, money and time to allow for a new addition.
