Two women seeking an inquiry into the use of surgical mesh are calling for action from health regulators.

Carmel Berry and Charlotte Korte both suffered complications caused by the mesh.

They want a formal inquiry into its use and have presented fresh evidence to Parliament's Health Select Committee today

Ms Berry says as soon to be published medical study shows the polypropolene mesh used isn't inert as has previously been claimed, and does degrade in human bodies.

"We hope that Medsafe would use this evidence to act quickly to put measures in place to reclassify properly meshed implants to a class three device - in other words an active implantable device."
