UPDATED 4.30PM: Police are searching for 23-year-old Bodi McKee in relation to a fatal shooting in South Auckland this morning.

Police say McKee is Maori and of medium build, 183cm tall, and has tattoos on his left shoulder and left forearm.

It is believed McKee is armed and should not be approached. 

A man was shot during an altercation in Manurewa's Winsford Street at about 7.15am, paramedics tried for an hour to revive him but he was eventually declared dead at the scene.

Officers believe the shooter drove away from the area.

Detective Inspector Gary Lendrum says it's clear the victim and Mckee know each other.

Police believe McKee is carrying a firearm and should not be approached.
