UPDATED 12.51pm: A South Auckland man is facing a string of charges after a dramatic car chase which ended on Auckland's Harbour Bridge last night.

29-year-old Jess Samau appeared in the District Court this morning.

NZME reports he's charged with six offences, including possessing a revolver, and discharging a firearm with reckless disregard for the safety of others, which carries a term of seven years jail.

The appearance follows an incident on Karangahape Road in the central city last night, where police responded to reports of fighting and shots being fired.

A person fled in a vehicle, which eventually crashed on the bridge.
