UPDATED 9.40pm Palmerston North police say there's nothing to suggest anything sinister behind an incident in the city yesterday.

There were reports a 12-year old boy had been asked to get into a car, but police say it appears someone has yelled something from a vehicle.

They don't believe it's related to an incident last week where a five year old was abducted, then later found in a distressed state.

Police are continuing to urge parents to talk to their children about safety.

They're also applauding the actions of the 12-year old who felt uncomfortable and immediately sough help.
